LARVENDER Expandable Carry on Luggage Sets 3 Piece Suitcases Review

My take on the LARVENDER Expandable Carry on Luggage Sets after a couple real trips, dings, zippers and all.

The LARVENDER Expandable Carry on Luggage Sets 3 Piece Suitcases are worth buying if you want expandable carry on luggage that survives repeated trips without beating up your shoulders. The 20 inch hardshell expands 25% for extra packing room, the backpack doubles as a diaper bag, and after multiple trips mine still has barely any dings. Buy it.

Quick Verdict

A couple trips in and not a lot of dings or scratches on this thing. That’s the whole verdict right there. The backpack doubling as a diaper bag and the toiletry bag holding a surprising amount sealed it for me.

Buy if you:

  • need expandable carry on luggage that still fits airline size rules
  • want a backpack that can pull double duty as a diaper bag
  • are building out a full luggage set instead of buying pieces separately
  • want TSA locks and spinner wheels without a steep learning curve

The Backpack Pulls Double Duty as a Diaper Bag

The front zipper pocket opens flat and wide enough to grab a diaper without unpacking the whole bag, and the side pocket fits a standard water bottle or a stack of diapers, whichever you need faster at 30,000 feet. That’s not an accident. That’s the kind of detail that tells you this expandable carry on luggage set was built for people who actually travel with other humans attached to them, not just a solo carry-on roller going through security alone.

What Happens When You Need More Than a Weekend Bag?

This set isn’t built for checked-bag-sized hauls, so if you’re packing for two weeks you’ll outgrow it fast. The 20 inch suitcase is sized to fit most American airline carry-on rules, and the 25% expansion helps, but it’s still a carry-on at its core. If your trips run longer or you’re packing for a family of four, you’re going to want a checked piece alongside this, not instead of it. The toiletry bag is a nice size and can hold a lot, and you can either put it in the suitcase or in the backpack depending on how you’re packing that day, which gives you some flexibility when the main bag runs tight.

Is an Expandable Carry on Luggage Set Worth the Money?

Yes, and the sales numbers back that read up. Amazon’s currently ranking this set around #35,867 in Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry, which is better than its own 90 day average of #41,147, so more people are buying it lately, not fewer. Amazon also reports more than 50 bought in the past month. The price today sits a touch above its usual range for the last three months, so if you’re patient it might settle back down, but you’re also getting three pieces instead of buying a carry luggage sets piece at a time, which is where a lot of the value shows up.

Cleaning the Hardshell and Keeping the Zippers Smooth

Going in, my bet was that an ABS shell this light would show scuffs after the first overhead bin slam, it didn’t. After a couple of trips, the shell wipes clean with a damp cloth and the surface still looks close to new, which is the actual test for a hardshell at this price. The 2 round corner protectors are doing real work here, that’s where hardshell luggage usually takes its first hit at baggage claim. The zippers are built so they’re not easy to pierce with something sharp like a pen, which matters more for keeping your stuff private than it does for day-to-day cleaning, but it’s worth knowing going in.

Who Actually Needs This Set?

This set has a clear sweet spot: short-haul flyers, parents who need a bag that works at the gate and at the playground, and anyone who’s tired of paying separately for a suitcase, a backpack, and a toiletry bag and still ending up with three things that don’t stack cleanly. If you’re a once-a-year traveler packing for a two week international trip, this isn’t your main piece, it’s your backpack and your toiletry kit at best. We’ve used this on a couple trips so far and I’d buy it again for exactly the kind of travel it’s built for.

Pros

  • Backpack doubles as a diaper bag with front zippers and a side water bottle pocket
  • Toiletry bag is a nice size and can hold a lot
  • Held up really well across multiple trips with barely any dings or scratches
  • TSA lock and spinner wheels work without any fuss
  • Expands for extra packing room when you need it

Cons

  • Sized strictly as a carry-on, not a substitute for a checked bag on longer trips
  • Backpack leans soft and pocket-heavy rather than structured, which won’t suit everyone

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this expandable carry on luggage meet airline size limits?

Yes, the 20 x 14 x 9 inch suitcase meets most American and international airlines’ carry-on size requirements. The expansion feature adds packing room without changing the base dimensions that get measured at the gate.

What’s covered under warranty if the shell cracks?

I didn’t test a failure case myself since mine’s held up fine, so check the current listing for the manufacturer’s specific warranty terms before you buy. ABS hardshells generally resist cracking better than soft-side bags but aren’t indestructible against serious baggage handling abuse.

Can the backpack attach to the suitcase handle for easier walking?

Yes, the backpack has a luggage strap on the back that slides over the rolling suitcase handle. That frees up your shoulders through the terminal instead of wearing the pack the whole walk.

Four stars because no dings or scratches after multiple trips is the real finding here, not a marketing line. Skip it if you need checked-bag capacity for long trips, but for short-haul carry-on travel with a kid in tow, the durability and backpack flexibility outweigh the capacity gap on short-haul trips.
